The Royal Gloucestershire Regiment Gift Collection
The Royal Gloucestershire Regiment, formed in 1881, was very distinguished. It was born from the amalgamation of the 28th (North Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot and the 61st (South Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot. With their proud motto "By our deeds we are known” the Royal Gloucestershire Regiment exemplified loyalty, perseverance, and valor. From the intense engagements of the Peninsular War to the defining battles of the Crimean War as well as both World Wars, the regiment's history is marked by gallantry and unwavering resolve.
Renowned for their exceptional discipline, battlefield prowess, and steadfast dedication, the Royal Gloucestershire Regiment excelled in various combat environments. As part of a significant reorganization of the British Army, on 27th July 1994 the regiment was amalgamated with the Duke of Edinburgh's Royal Regiment to form the Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment. And then, on 1st February 2007, they amalgamated with the Royal Green Jackets and Light infantry to create the Rifles Regiment. The enduring legacy and traditions of the Royal Gloucestershire Regiment continue to be honored within this new formation, symbolizing a steadfast commitment to service, resilience, and distinguished excellence within the British Army.
